How to Appear Offline in League of Legends

How to Appear Offline in League of Legends

League of Legends gives you the option to socialize with other games before the game begins. From this portal, you can add friends, chat with other players, and send them invitations to play with you.

However, not everyone prefers interacting with other players, some prefer to keep stay private and enjoy their gameplay. If you are among the category of people who aren’t in the mood to interact with other players in online multiplayer games.

Perhaps, you have accumulated hundreds or thousands of people in your friends list and you are tired of getting invitations to play games, you may wish to stay offline and enjoy your game without being disturbed. This may be a good idea as you wouldn’t want to tell them straight to their face that you don’t want to play with them.

Unfortunately, League of Legends doesn’t have any feature to set your privacy status or make you appear offline. You can only set it to appear as online or away. However, there is a workaround to this. In this article, you will find how to appear offline in LoL.

The LoL Friends List

From the right-hand side of the screen, you should be able to see your friends’ activity on the “friend list” bar. It is from this place that you add people you know and it makes it relatively easy for you to contact them when the need arises.

If you notice that your friend is online, you can chat with them, watch their ongoing game sessions, or invite them to enjoy a game with you.

Why You Should Appear Offline in League of Legends (LoL)?

There are lots of reasons why anyone would want to appear offline in Lol. Let’s take a look at some of them:

1. Privacy

The primary reason why most players choose to appear offline in League of Legends is that they want to protect their privacy. If you are very conscious about backseat gamers and people watching your games, you wouldn’t have anyone around watching you play.

When your friends are watching your games, it may exert pressure on you and this could affect your performance. However, if you are in offline mode, none of your friends will know that your match is ongoing so, they won’t be able to watch you when you are playing a game.

2. Avoid Conversation With Players

League of Legends is not one of the messenger apps like Telegram, WhatsApp, or Facebook Messenger. Even though the chat functionality has helped you learn a lot of gaming tips and tricks, you wouldn’t want friends to come to you to talk about random and unrelated gaming topics when you open the League of Legends client.

If you have friends who derive pleasure in talking about general stuff or things you don’t like, you can restrict them by keeping them at arm’s length.

3. Busy Routine

If you are busy watching replays, buying champions, and doing all of that stuff, you may want to appear offline. In fact, buying champions can be time-consuming and you wouldn’t want to sound impolite when one of your friends chat you up.

Thankfully, appearing offline will make sure you get the time required to focus on the task at hand and get the work done.

4. Solo Play

Sometimes, it may be problematic to play with a friend because they expect you to cheer them to victory. Maybe you don’t just want to play with a friend and you don’t want to sound rude to them when you tell them you prefer to play alone. In this situation, it will be a good idea to just appear offline to enjoy your gameplay all by yourself.

5. Boosting

Boosting accounts isn’t a great thing to do because it doesn’t only get you into trouble with friends but can also result in an immediate ban on your account. If you ever to boost your account, it’s best you do it in offline mode where no one can see what you are doing. However, you should be aware of the risk involved in boosting your account because if Riot ever finds out, you will lose all your games as well as any RP gained.

6. Concentration

Gaming requires a lot of focus and concentration. For instance, if you’ve just unlocked a new level or champion, you may want to get some time to test them out. Appearing offline can help you find time to concentrate on your games. Say goodbye to annoying and distractive friends and enjoy the game in absolute peace.

How To Appear Offline in League of Legends

There are two main ways you can stay offline in the League of Legends client. You can do this either through any of the following:

  • Method 1: Using the Command Prompt.
  • Method 2: Appear Offline using Deceive.

How To Appear Offline in LoL Using Command Prompt

This method allows you to block your PC or laptop from connecting to Riot’s chat servers. What you need to do to appear offline on LoL using this method is to disconnect your PVP chat. When you do so, you will find a message at the bottom right corner of the client which says, “disconnected from PVP chat”.

Still, you should be able to connect and play games without any issues because the Riot chat servers aren’t the same as the game servers.

This method doesn’t require you to install any program of any kind. You only need to ensure that your computer isn’t connected to the chat server when you are logged in. When this is done, your friends and those who disturb you will never know that you are online and you cannot see them as well. Hence, you will be left alone to enjoy your game sessions.

Follow the steps below to appear offline using this method.

  • Step 1: First, you have to make sure that your Windows Firewall settings are turned on. To do this, all you have to do is type in “Windows Defender Firewall” on the Windows search bar located at the bottom part of your computer screen.
  • Step 2: Type and search for “cmd” on the Windows search bar.
  • Step 3: Now, you will see the Command Prompt. Right-click and select “Run as Administrator”.
  • Step 4: Copy the code. For Europe West (EUW) server, copy this code – netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name=”lolchat” dir=out remoteip= protocol=TCP action=block. For North America (NA) server, copy this text – netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name=”lolchat” dir=out remoteip= protocol=TCP action=block. If you aren’t playing on the North American server, replace “remoteip=” with your region’s IP address.
  • Step 5: If you copied the code, paste it in the command prompt box and click the “Enter” key on your PC.

Immediately you follow these five steps above, you should be able to appear offline in League of Legends. Note that if you are already logged into the LoL client, you need to close and relaunch the program for the changes you made to start working.

How To Appear Online Again In League of Legends

If you want to revert to appearing online so that your friends can contact you, follow these steps:

  • Step 1: Type and search for “cmd.exe” on the Windows search bar.
  • Step 2: Open the command prompt and run it as an administrator just the way you did the last time you appeared offline.
  • Step 3: Copy this text: netsh advfirewall firewall delete rule name= “lolchat”.
  • Step 4: Now, paste the text you copied in the command prompt box.
  • Step 5: Hit the “Enter” key on your PC.

After doing this, your online status will be restored and you will appear online and your friends can see that you are online. Basically, what this method does is deactivate and activate your connection to the Riot chat servers.

If you ever face any issues in appearing online, you may have to go through the steps and try them carefully. Maybe you typed the wrong text in the Windows search bar. This time around, make sure you select to run “Cmd.exe” as an administrator.

How To Appear Offline in LoL Using Deceive

Another method you can use to appear offline in League of Legends is to use a software called Deceive. This software switches your League of Legends activity to offline and makes you totally invincible. This method will be a simple one, especially for those who can’t do the Command Prompt method.

What Deceive does is block your PC’s connection to the LOL’s chat servers, which in turn, prevents your friends from seeing you when you log into your LoL account. Although Deceive is a third-party software, it is legal and also safe to use. It doesn’t steal your personal information or sensitive data or do any wrong stuff.

To appear offline with this software, you must first download the latest version of Deceive, and run the game from the client. If you want to know if the program is successful, visit your client and see if your presence is offline with the Deceive tag close to it.

Follow these steps:

  • Step 1: Download Deceive.
  • Step 2: Launch the game using the Deceive client and not from the League of Legends client. Ideally, you would want to launch it in Admin mode. When you are done, you will appear offline to everyone even though you are online.

Remember that Deceive is a third-party software and you could face some problems with the use of this software with time. We advise the Command Prompt method because it is more reliable and trusted than the Deceive software.

That said, you shouldn’t be afraid of trying out Deceive as it is 100% safe and legal. Deceive works across various servers and platforms, so you should be able to appear offline on any LoL server.
